The windmill with four sails was listed in 1961, but collapsed after a flood in April 1970. It was rebuilt by 1973, but its condition deteriorated over the years and it was declared unsafe in 2005.
The windmill is the only one of 23 which stood in Kiskundorozsma as late as 1905. It was a working mill until 1949.
Hungary?s Treasury Asset Management Directorate and the local council of Szeged, a large city near Kiskundorozsma, shared the cost of the refurbishment in equal part.
Szeged deputy-mayor László Solymos said the keys to the windmill would be kept at Kiskundorozsma?s Cultural Centre and it would be open to visitors as well as for special events.
