Zsolt Keserue, who heads the studio, noted that the association of young artists' Studio Gallery was based in a building on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street in the 70s before it moved to a location in Képíro Street in 1994; but plans to set up an exhibition space in the Rottenbiller Street headquarters were in the making since the 80s.

The 100-square-metre gallery at the headquarters was converted from a guest gallery and a graphic studio.

Expert State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Culture Márta Schneider said the ministry had contributed about HUF 4m to the conversion, covering 80pc-90pc of the total cost of the project. The ministry is also contributing HUF 2.9 million to cover the studio's 2007 budget, she added.

The gallery is intended to provide an exhibition space for young artists who are just starting out with their careers. Additionally, it will serve as a venue for international projects, professional talks and presentations. The first exhibition at the gallery will open in September.
