Guimet Museum head Olivier de Bernon was invited by István Zelnik to Hungary to see his collection at the museum on the capital?s grand Andrassy Boulevard as well as a travelleing exhibition of porcelain recovered from the Ca Mau shipwreck, said Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum director Róbert Kuszinger.

During his two-day visit to Budapest, de Bernon agreed to launch joint research with the Hungarian museum.

Kuszinger said the first research programme would focus on cast forms from Southeast Asia. He added that the museum has several such objects in its collection, mainly from the Angkor period.

Although the Guimet Museum is not accepting travelling exhibitions for a few years, de Bernon recommended several other institutions in France that might be interested in hosting the Ca Mau show.

The Guimet Museum, established by Émile Étienne Guimet in 1879, houses the largest Asian collection outside of Asia.
