The festival closed with two performances by the Ferenc Liszt Chamber Orchestra. The first concert, in the city of Tokaj on August 18, featured a light programme of popular dance tunes - among them Kreisler waltzes performed en solo by four of the ensemble's violinists. The second concert, in Sárospatak the following evening, featured an outstanding performance by the cellist Gustav Rivinius.

The Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály as well as musical works connected to Saint Elisabeth of the Árpád Dynasty, who was born 800 years ago, were in the focus at this year's Zemplén Festival. The festival boasted some 50 events at 30 venues in the region, among them the castles of Sárospatak and Szerencs, the Tokaj Cultural Centre and the synagogue of Sátoraljaújhely.

Next year's Zemplén Festival is slated to take place on August 8-17. On the programme is the premiere of a musical by the pop stars Gábor Presser and Péter Novák, and a concert of arias performed by the great Hungarian soprano Andrea Rost.
