The performance will be the world premiere of the opera with its new third act. Schönberg completed only the libretto for the third act before he died. Kocsis closely followed notes Schönberg left behind when composing the music for the act.

The music historian János Kárpáti called Moses and Aaron a key composition of 20th century music. He added that it was timely the piece should be performed at the Miskolc National Opera Festival last summer. The piece had its Hungarian premiere at the festival, although the third act was performed in prose form.

Kocsis had little praise for Miskolc's solution to the missing music for the third act and said it was part of his inspiration to write a score for it.

The premiere in Budapest will feature Wolfgang Schöne as Moses and Daniel Brenna as Aaron.
