The Carthage Festival is a world music event that has taken place for decades, and the Classical Theatre where the concerts are held seats 7,000-8,000 people, said Hungarian ambassador to Tunisia Pál Pataki, who helped organise the performances. The amphitheatre of El Djem, about 200 kilometres south of the capital, has been used as a venue for musical events for the past twelve summers, he added.

Press chief of the 100-Member Gypsy Orchestra Nándor Farkas Bede said that a two-part 90-minute show had been prepared for the concerts in Tunisia. At the request of the organisers, the orchestra has learnt some popular Arab tunes, he added. The first part of the show will include Hungarian and Gypsy songs. The second part will focus on popular classical music, such as excerpts from the Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky and the overtures to William Tell and The Gypsy Baron.
