Ridder is visiting all three 2010 European Capital of Culture cities ? Essen, Pécs and Istanbul ? on his tour. He is getting there with the help of motorists who pull his camper trailer.
The motto of the tour is ?Tow Bar Needed?, which means to express that one always needs somebody else?s help to move forward, says Ridder.
Ridder, whose travelling companions are Peter Bijl and a dog named Dachs, hopes to reach Istanbul in three weeks. His arrival is timed to coincide with that of Simon Winttermans, who is making the journey from Pécs to Istanbul by bicycle.
