Traffic around the island is expected to be especially heavy during this year's festival as the lower embankment road along the Danube, the road that runs to the island's entrance, is closed to install sewer pipes, said Tibor Tóth, who is in charge of services for the festival.

Parking will be limited around the island, and police and parking authorities have said they will show no lenience for illegally parked vehicles, Tóth said.

The Budapest Public Transport Company (BKV) will operate more and longer suburban rail (HÉV) trains to the island than normal, and these will run around the clock. A regular bus service will operate between the Sziget grounds and major traffic junctions in the city centre between 11pm and 5am at a cost of HUF 350 per journey for the duration of the festival. The most popular and fastest transport route to the island in recent years has been by boat. This service, for HUF 500 per journey, will also run more frequently than before, and it will make more stops: at Jászai Mari Square, Vigadó Square and Batthyány Square.

The Sziget Festival takes place on August 13-18. This year's programme includes such big-name acts as R.E.M., Alanis Morissette and the Sex Pistols.
