Istvan Hiller spoke after a world music concert by Bea Palya in Washington's Kennedy Center late Sunday.

The ten-month "Extremely Hungary" festival opened in New York, with a concert by the Budapest Festival Orchestra in the Carnegie Hall on January 24. On the following Saturday pieces by contemporary Hungarian composers Gyorgy Kurtag and Gyorgy Ligeti were performed under the baton of composer Peter Eotvos.

Hiller noted that coverage of the events have been "more than impressive" in the mainstream US press and cited the three pieces carried in the past ten days in the New York Times alone.

"Hungary's image will be shaped through more than 100 programmes and 100 artists throughout the season," Hiller said.
