The year-long series was organised to celebrate the 550th anniversary of the ascension of "the Renaissance King" Matthias to the Hungarian throne. Extensive exhibitions were shown, historic monuments renovated and public art collections expanded, costing over 2 billion forints (EUR 7 m), said Bernadett Budai.
Another 2 billion forints of the total 4 billion allocated for the year was provided by the Culture Ministry in grants for Renaissance related projects, she said. Projects included among others "Renaissance" tours for some 45,000 students from 500 schools to memorial sites.
The year featured some 700 events at 300 venues.
