The Semaine International de la Critique, or International Critics' Week, was started in 1962 as an alternative to the highly competitive context of the Cannes Film Festival. It invites seven feature films and seven shorts to participate in Cannes at the same time as the Cannes Film Festival, seeking to discover new talent. This year's Semaine International de la Critique will be held between May 15 and 23.
"Ergo is about the music in us... about the monotony of freedom and the freedom of monotony," according to the synopsis of the 12-minute short.
Géza M. Tóth (1970) teaches at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design and is a guest lecturer at schools in the UK, Estonia, Germany and India. His 2005 short Maestro was nominated for an Academy Award in 2007.
Toth will attend the screening of the short in Cannes.
