ICSID Board to Meet in Budapest

ICSID, which has eight country members, Chile, the United States, India, Japan, Korea, the UK, Taiwan and Hungary, aims to raise the profile of design. At the boarding meeting in Budapest, Hungary and the Central Eastern European region will be represented by Judit Várhelyi, who heads the office of the Hungarian Design Council.

 
"In this continually changing economic environment, cooperation and solidarity are indispensable, be it in the area of business, arts or education," said Várhelyi. The 2009 Year of European Year of Creativity and Innovation aims to drawn attention to the role of the artist in ensuring Europe's future in the face of global competition, she added.
 
Professor Martin Darbyshire, a founder of the Tangerine design studio, will address the issue of using design to one's advantage on a competitive market at a talk at MOME on May 15. Darbyshire, who is on the ICSID board, designed the British Airways business class seat, among many other things.
 
ICSID Deputy Chairman Dr. Mark Breitenberg will give the second talk of the day. Using the example of the Pasadena Art Center and the California College of Arts, he will demonstrate how cooperation can be established in the area of design education, touching on the place of interdisciplinary studios and people-centered research.
