The exhibition will show "the socialist's good taste", items of clothing that demonstrate fashion - albeit a practical and modest fashion - existed in communist Hungary from the 1950s until the change of system.
The starting point for the exhibition is a collection of the works of the designer Zsuzsa Ökrös (1931-2005), which was donated to the Budapest History Museum's Kiscelli Museum by Judit Rákoskerti, the designer's daughter. Other items in the exhibition include photos and textiles from the Kiscelli Museum's own collection as well as from that of the Hungarian National Museum.
The exhibition will feature 30 outfits and more than a hundred accessories, including hats, scarves, bags, gloves and socks. It will also show more than 250 documents, such as photographs, sketches, posters, fashion magazines and catalogues.
The museum will show period film clips in its projection room to create additional atmosphere for the exhibition.
The exhibition runs from October 12, 2007 until January 14, 2008. The Budapest History Museum is located at Szent György tér 2. It is open every day except Tuesday from 10:00 until 18:00 until October 31, and from 10:00 until 16:00 from November 1.
