Tamas Fejerdy addressed a three-day international conference held in the southern Hungarian city of Pecs which holds the title of European Capital of Culture this year. He said that on the basis of an appraisal of 100 southern and central Hungarian listed buildings carried out in the recent past it is estimated that a similar percentage of buildings - 36 percent - are endangered across the country.

He said that it is not that the buildings in question are in danger of collapsing at any time but many were in a bad state of repair though could be preserved and renovated.
