On the VIDOR Festival programme are some 400 events at 50 venues. This year?s festival will also feature productions of some of Hungary?s best stage comedies. About 90 percent of the festival?s performances will be open to the public free of charge.

The list of world music performances include one by Eliades Ochoa of the Buena Vista Social Club, who will sing in Nyíregyháza?s Kossuth Square on the opening day of the festival. On the following days, the square, which has a capacity for 5,000 people, will be the site for concerts by Salif Keita, known for his reputation as the ?Golden Voice of Africa?, Thierry ?Titi? Robin, the bouzouki virtuoso, and Lura, the stunning new interpreter of Cape Verdian tradition. Mardi Grass BB will bring a taste of New Orleans to Nyíregyháza, Juan Carmona will enchant with flamenco and Dobet Gnahoré will entertain with Afropop.

In addition to foreign artists, the festival will also host well-known Hungarian stars such as Ferenc Snétberger, Félix Lajkó, Bea Palya and Kálmán Balogh.

For comedy lovers, VIDOR will show 14 theatre performances and six street performances of Hungarian comedies. A six-member jury, to be chaired by the director Miklós Szinetár and including the critics Dezső Kovács and Judit Csáki as well as three volunteers selected from the audience in a draw, will choose nine of the best performances for awards.

Nyíregyháza?s Kossuth Square will be transformed into an outdoor movie theatre during the festival. The audience will be entertained by some of the latest Hungarian comedies for the screen, including ?Just Sex and Nothing Else?, ?A Skirt and Trousers? and ?Glass Tiger 2?.
