The eleven percussionists, who spent the week under the tutelage of Lorenzo Ferrandiz Carrillo from Spain, performed six pieces, of which four were Hungarian premieres.

Among the highlights of the concert were John Beck?s composition Overture for Percussion, Lou Harrison?s The Drums of Orpheus and Tom Gauger?s Portico.

István Szabó, who heads the University of Debrecen?s music department, said the students, between the ages of 16 and 26, had just four days to prepare for the concert.

The Young Musicians Summer Academy will wind up with a concert in Debrecen?s Kölcsey Centre on July 24.
