László Simet will perform a tightrope act at a height of 40 metres. Olga Simet will also take to the tightrope and join a segment involving several hundred dancers and acrobats.

Simet declined to reveal any details of the acts, but said he would be performing with a safety rope at the insistence of the organisers.

Simet said he had joined his wife in London for rehearsals two weeks earlier, but the participants had performed at the actual stadium venue only twice, in the middle of the night.

He said the two had been asked to join the closing ceremony already in the autumn of last year, but had received a contract just days before their departure to London.

Simet, who has performed tightrope acts at venues all around the world, was presented the Knight's Cross Order of Merit from the Hungarian president for his 30-year contribution to Hungarian culture in 2006.

His wife is a graduate of the Moscow Circus School.

Simet can be seen in the Budapest Circus from September 22.
