Drama Festival to Draw Foreign Professionals

English

The Contemporary Drama Festival has been a regular event on Budapest's cultural calendar since 1997. The Visitors' Programme has been a part of the event since 2005.

The Visitors' Programme has yielded impressive results. German theatre journal Theaterheute has worked together with the festival's Hungarian organisers to inform German theatre-goers of the latest happenings on the stage in Hungary. Germany's Theater der Zeit, Poland's Dialog and professional publications in the UK, Bulgaria and Italy have followed suit.

Assistance from the programme has produced English and German translations of János Háy's The Géza Chid, as well as English translations of Péter Kárpáti's The Fourth Gate, Lajos Parti Nagy's Ibusár, Zoltán Egressy's Portugal, István Tasnádi's Finito and Virág Erdős's The Assassination. It has also heightened the profile of plays such as Kornél Munduczó's The Frankenstein Plan and Réka Szabó's Alibi with performances abroad.

Some 50 foreigners are expected to participate at this year's Visitors' Programme.
