Transylvanian Writer Aladár Lászlóffy Dies at 72

Lászlóffy attended the Reformed Gymnasium of Cluj-Napoca and later earned a degree in Hungarian literature from the city's university. He took his first job as an editor for the book publisher's Irodalmi Könyvkiadó in 1961. He worked as editor for the children's publication Napsugár between 1962 and 1969, and for the literary magazine Utunk (renamed Helikon after the fall of communism) from 1982. He became a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Cluj-Napoca starting in 1994.

 
Lászlóffy was presented a Kossuth Prize in 1998. He is also the recipient of an Order of the Hungarian Republic and Officer of the Star of Romania.
 
Lászlóffy has published more than 30 books, among them the novel Héphaisztosz és a Papírrepülő (Hephaestus and the Kite), as well as collections of poetry and essays. He also contributed to a portfolio of photographs by László Kántor and translated the Romanian poet Mircea Dinescu's works into Hungarian.
